The IOM Europeans are done and now we have the Nationals this weekend at Lincoln. Congratulations to Rob Walsh and Graham Elliott for finishing 3rd and 6th in the Europeans.
Looking back over the last 10 years, only four names have featured on the IOM Nationals Trophy, Tony Edwards, Rob Walsh, Craig Richards and of course Brad Gibson.
The list of runners and riders would suggest the following are favourites for the podium and all have been racing these boats for more than a decade.
Brad in his Post Punk is always quick in this beautifully prepared boat. Craig Richards is on version 12 of his 3d printed Proteus design and looks to be nearing the finished item. Josh King is riding a wave of outstanding performance from the last ranking event in Scarborough in his BG Pop design, Chris Harris is sailing a Four Kilo design, and Peter Stollery, Tony Edwards and Martin Roberts are sporting their Britpops.
Sadly missing from this list are Rob Walsh and Graham Elliott who are resting or working after their European success.
It's a cast littered with World, European and National champions, the competition will be intense. Of course there are a few outsiders who will want to spoil the party. Good luck to them all and may the best skipper win.
The forecast is looking good with gusts of up to 25mph on Saturday but easing Sunday and Monday but we know it will be less at lake level. It could be a mix of A and B rigs to keep everybody guessing and on their toes.
Whatever the result it will be great fun and we know that it will be an enjoyable time under the management and watchful eyes of the Lincoln team.
As for me, like in golf I have zero expectation but am pleased with my Craig Richard’s Proteus. Unlike last year, I have a balanced boat with good rigs so who knows.
