Thank you to all those who bought a coffee or 5 during the year. It really does help to cover the subscriptions and thank you to all for reading and supporting this web site. Your feedback and comments make it all worth while. If anyone has ideas for additions to the web site please let me know. My focus in the new year will be helping with the organisation of the IOM worlds in May 2026 and you may have seen my articles in Yachts and yachting over the last couple of months.
It was a pleasure to keep up to date on all the developments and building/printing around the world of the Proteus design. So many new ideas and builds occuring all over the world. Mine is siting on the shelf at the moment while I work up the VISS.
The last event for me took place on Sunday with a hardy 6 Marbleheads skippers sailing at Gosport. Its been a long time since Gosport has seen these beautiful boats. A tight finish and I just beat Peter Stollery on countback. WInd down the lake making for a near perfect day.
Lastly, if you have not seen it, here is the latest video from Iain May using a camera cat of racing at Gosport. Fantastic footage. Not my best day.
OK, and now a spoiler.

Seasons greetings to all radio and free sailors and hoping you have shiny new boats Under the Tree
The holiday season brings a special kind of magic to sailors who live for the open water and the thrill of adventure. For radio and free sailors, this time of year is not just about festive cheer but also about dreaming of new journeys and the excitement of new boats waiting to be unwrapped. Imagine a Christmas tree adorned with twinkling lights and beneath it, wrapped in colorful paper, lie shiny new boats ready to set sail. This festive vision captures the spirit of the season for those who cherish the sea and the freedom it offers.
In this post, we celebrate the joy of the holidays for sailors everywhere. We explore how this season inspires hope, new beginnings, and the promise of countless voyages ahead. Whether you are a seasoned radio sailor or a free sailor embracing the waves, this message is for you.

The Spirit of the Holidays for Sailors
The holidays are a time to reflect on the year past and look forward to new adventures. For sailors, this reflection often centers on the sea—the calm mornings, the challenging storms, and the endless horizon. The joy of sailing is deeply connected to freedom, exploration, and connection with nature.
During the holiday season, sailors often gather to share stories of their voyages, exchange tips, and dream about future trips. The image of a Christmas tree surrounded by gifts shaped like boats is more than just a festive decoration; it represents the hopes and dreams of every sailor. It is a reminder that the sea is always calling, and new adventures await.
Why New Boats Make the Holidays Brighter
A new boat is more than just a vessel; it is a gateway to new experiences. For radio sailors, a new boat might mean improved technology, better control, and enhanced performance on the water. For free sailors, it could represent freedom, comfort, and the ability to explore new waters with confidence.
Here are some reasons why receiving a new boat during the holidays is so special:
Renewed excitement: A new boat brings fresh enthusiasm and motivation to sail more often.
Upgraded features: Modern boats come with innovations that make sailing safer and more enjoyable.
Personal achievement: Owning a new boat is a milestone that reflects dedication and passion for sailing.
Community connection: New boats often spark conversations and connections within the sailing community.
Imagine unwrapping a beautifully crafted model or even a full-sized boat, ready to be taken out on the water. The anticipation of testing its capabilities and exploring new routes adds to the holiday joy.
Tips for Choosing the Perfect Boat Gift
Selecting a boat as a holiday gift requires thoughtful consideration. Whether you are buying for yourself or a fellow sailor, here are some practical tips to guide your choice:
Assess sailing style: Consider whether the sailor prefers radio-controlled boats or free sailing vessels.
Check skill level: Choose a boat that matches the sailor’s experience, from beginner-friendly models to advanced designs.
Consider size and storage: Ensure the boat fits the available storage space and is easy to transport.
Look for quality materials: Durable construction means the boat will last through many seasons.
Include accessories: Think about adding sails, batteries, or maintenance kits to complete the gift.
By focusing on these factors, you can find a boat that brings joy and enhances the sailing experience.
Creating Lasting Memories with Your New Boat
The holidays are about creating memories that last a lifetime. A new boat can be the centerpiece of many unforgettable moments on the water. Here are some ways to make the most of your new vessel during the holiday season and beyond:
Plan a holiday sail: Take advantage of calm winter days to enjoy peaceful sailing trips.
Invite friends and family: Share the joy of sailing with loved ones, creating bonds through shared experiences.
Document your adventures: Keep a sailing journal or photo album to capture special moments.
Join sailing events: Participate in local regattas or community gatherings to meet fellow sailors.
Maintain your boat: Regular care ensures your boat stays in top condition for many holidays to come.
These activities help deepen your connection to sailing and make each holiday season more meaningful.
Sharing the Holiday Spirit with the Sailing Community
The sailing community is known for its camaraderie and support. During the holidays, this spirit shines even brighter. Many groups organize festive events, charity sails, and gift exchanges that bring sailors together.
Ways to get involved include:
Attend holiday meetups: Join local sailing clubs for seasonal celebrations.
Participate in charity events: Sail in fundraisers that support marine conservation or local causes.
Exchange gifts: Organize secret Santa or boat-themed gift swaps.
Volunteer: Help with community sailing programs or teach newcomers.
Share stories: Use forums or social media to connect and inspire others.
These activities strengthen the bonds within the sailing world and spread holiday cheer.
The holiday season is a time of joy, hope, and new beginnings for radio and free sailors alike. Imagining a Christmas tree surrounded by shiny new boats captures the essence of this special time—a blend of tradition, passion, and the promise of adventure. Whether you are unwrapping a new boat or simply dreaming of future sails, may your holidays be filled with warmth, excitement, and the freedom of the sea.
