The 2025 season is nearly over

Another great season passes by. Not one of my best but there were successes and I have learnt so much about how RC boats work. I still have weaknesses in my basis sailing skills, eg getting off the start line and managing crowded mark roundings.

Missing out on the worlds was a disappointment but I am getting a lot of satisfaction out of planning the event. If the wind plays ball I think this could be one of the best events ever but then I am bias.

Key highlights for me were the transformation of my Marblehead when I reduced the bulb can from 4.5 to 1.5 degrees. It was like I was sailing a different boat. The DF series has been fun and some great battles with John Tushingham. As to the IOM, It has been a pleasure working with Craig this year on two boat tuning with his Proteus and now I have to work out how to make the VISS perform at its best. Ranking events and nationals were not my best. I had poor setups for each event and being disqualified for skulling in the penultimate race of the last event summed up the year.

There is lots to learn and a lot to do next year. Key early targets are the IOM ranking at Southport and the nationals at Datchet over Easter. No egg hunting for me.

Whatever you do this month have a great festive season and look forward to providing racing updates next year.

What's happening with my VISS

It's a pleasure to work with a beautifully engineered boat with a unique design. The deck layout is clean and well through through. The boat was easy to put together and when fully rigged looks good
