Can you believe we are past the longest day. It is downhill from here but it has been a good summer so far.
This is my first trip to the Weecher reservoir (Keighley) for the IOM ranking event this weekend. It was an easy trip having left home at 9.30 and flew up the M1 to within 20 miles of the destination. To my horror the Satnav said I had another 1 hour to cover those last few miles and it was not wrong. All was not bad news though as I found diesel at £1.43/ltr. This will be my last long trip in this van as we are upgrading to a slightly bigger one where two can live comfortably.
On arrival I found John Tushingham (RO) preparing for the event and he put on a few races just to shake down the boat. Initially I wasn't going to bother until I remembered I had not sailed the boat for a while. All was good and we had 4 races in 10-15 knots of wind and I was able to try the A and B rig. The forecast for the weekend is for up to 30 knots on Sunday with Thunderstorms so the C rig may even get an outing. There is a good turn out so we will be sailing in 2 fleets.
My camp site is on top of the world. See the photo. The Hawksworth camping site is well worth a visit if you are in the area and it features a cafe if you are here during sailing hours and only 5 mins from the reservoir. We have rain forecast overnight but hopefully not much.
Most of the top people are here to race over the weekend so it will be a good test.
